Doug Cameron and Stephen Witteveen attended the Family & Children's Services annual general meeting June 19, 2008 at which over 20 scholarships were given away to kids under their care, including the Cambridge North Rotary Scholarship. It was a wonderful event. Many moving stories were heard about the kids clearing the hurdles in their lives to succeed in school and move on to college. Many of you will remember when President, Peter Ringrose, came to speak to our club and brought with him one of the kids, Amber Hope, who also spoke to us about the scholarship program. As it turns out, Amber Hope (a Cambridge resident) is the recipient of the Cambridge North Rotary Scholarship. She completed the Business Foundations Program at Conestoga College and she will be entering the first year of the Public Relations program at Conestoga in September. Amber plans to take the Events Management Program after she completes the P.R. program. She is clearly a bright and ambitious young woman, and I think we have good reason to be very proud of her as the recipient of our Scholarship. On behalf of all the Scholarship recipients, Amber also delivered the "Words of Appreciation from a Scholarship Recipient". Folks -- this is why we are Rotarians!
