OPENING CEREMONIES
President Mike began the meeting by calling on Steve Witteveen to lead us in the National Anthem. Peter followed with the invocation and conversation resumed while we waited for our meals to be served.

TABLE TALK
I continually fail to take notes around our lunch table. I can assure you the conversation was engaging and entertaining while being relevant and educational at the same time. I personally would not hesitate to sit at that table a second time.
 
 
SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

We had 42 members present for a percentage of 10 .... or was that 10 members present for a percentage of 42.

We had several honoured guests today: Scott Taggart, our speaker; Jim Ross, who was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow and his sons Dave and Ian.

 

 

 

 

HAPPY-TOONIES
Fred - recently saw a stage production about Helen Keller.
         - The cobra car is almost ready to have the literal " rubber meet the road" after undergoing some repairs.
 
Doug - Doug and Connie joined Mike and Sue to watch the play The Ladies Foursome which Sue directed. A great evening and a great production!
           - Happy to be working with the spine surgeon in Kitchener assessing patients and learning lots.
 
Mike Jennings - Happy to have his wife back from directing The Ladies Foursome for the Elmira Theatre.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
The Superhero Run is approaching (Sun June 2).

GUEST SPEAKER
Paul Harris Presentation
 
A well regarded and deserving member of our community, Jim Ross, was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow today.
 
Jim, a retired farmer, opened Grand Valley Feed in 1961. In 1071, the business moved Main St. transferred its focus to vitamin pre-mix which allowed it to extend its market. The company became Grand Valley Fortifiers at this time. Now, at age 83, Jim continues to come to the office and maintains regular contact with farmers. Jim's sons Dave and Ian, now run the company. Grand Valley Fortifiers has a long tradition of supporting the community. Over the years they have supported Cambridge Memorial Hospital, the Coping Centre, Heritage College and Seminary, and tree planting project.
 
Guest Speaker - Scott Taggert
 
Scott is currently employed by the Suez Company which produces water treatment systems.
 
Scott received a scholarship from Rotary International to embark on a Masters Degree program at the Institute of Water Education (Engineering) in the Netherlands (IHE Delft). There were 90 students from around the world studying at the institute. Students were partnered with local Rotarians while studying.
 
Currently a number of these graduates been involved  in a Water and Sanitation project in Bolivia. Scott and his colleagues have redesigned an eco-latrine and have currently built 75 latrines in rural Bolivia. Phase 1 of the project has been completed and will begin the second phase once they have raised $115,000. They are currently short $10,000.
 
It was announced today that Cambridge North Rotary will contribute $2000 to this project which will be matched by another $2000.

NOTES:
 

The Sgt.‐At‐Arms shall mark the attendance sheet, input Guest Names, Visiting Rotarians and Make‐ups submitted by club members, as well as calculate the meeting percentage. You will also give the invocation when requested by the President. At the end of the meeting make sure the Secretary has the “Secretary’s Copy”.


In addition, the SAA shall also fill in the attendance details on the “Bulletin Editor’s Copy” and make sure the editor receives it by the end of the meeting.

 
The person who is responsible for any Ticket sales shall enter the cash details on the “Treasurer’s Copy”. They shall also collect the Happy Toonies and enter that information on the same sheet. At the end of the meeting they shall give the treasurer the tally sheet along with the cash in an envelope. There is a supply of banker’s envelopes in the tote box.
