OPENING CEREMONIES
President Laureen brought the meeting to order a few minutes after the usual time, she was excused however because she came rushing in directly from a meeting of the Board of Directors. There was a spontaneous start to O Canada, Dave Thomas led the invocation and the Pres gave the command EAT.

TABLE TALK

As we sat down to eat Paul Witmer the Chair of the Family of Rotary, passed around a sheet of paper asking each member present to add his/her name, birthday, anniversary and any other significant event. The committee of the family of Rotary would like to acknowledge these dates. It was not necessary to put your full birth date just the day and month would be acceptable. Interestingly Dave Thomas at our table let it be known that he was quite proud of his birthday and was happy to include the year as well. If you were not present at today's meeting Paul still wants your information.

Dean Fitzgerald gave us a brief explanation on the travels of a Monarch Butterfly, he also had a novel way to kill grubs on your lawn. It seemed to include a battery and holes in the ground but you may not want to try this at home.

GUEST SPEAKER

Today was a special day for our club, we presented a Paul Harris Fellowship to an outstanding member of the community. Paul Goetz introduced Marg Stahlbaum to the club.
Marg Stahlbaum has been travelling to Swaziland for many years where she works with people with HIV and visits people in the remote areas. They help organize books for the school libraries and she collects and ships books, furniture and clothing to Swaziland. Marg is a Librarian at Grandview Public School in Cambridge.

For those members who need an updating on the Paul Harris Award, it is the highest award in Rotary  and It is given to a Rotarian or a member of the community that has made an
outstanding contribution to the community.

Marg then give an excellent talk on the amazing work she and her family and friends are doing in Swaziland. She first corrected us that the new name for Swaziland is eSwatini. It is one of the smallest countries in Africa. Her group has shipped over 750,000 books to eSwatini.. They also work with teachers and helping to build facilities to hold the books.

Pres Laureen thanked Marg and her daughter for her talk and the amazing work they are doing, she then gonged us back to work.
