OPENING CEREMONIES

President Laureen brought the meeting of Cambridge North Rotary to order . Someone nameless started off Oh Canada , and innvocation went off without a hitch .

TABLE TALK

We discussed last weeks tri club meeting , the delicious brussel sprouts , double cooked , and deep fried . Dave Kinder had a great story from his father's time during WW II . There was a field of brussel sprouts past the landing strip adjacent to the air force base .They were also famous veggies !

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

Sgt-At-Arms Peter announced that 17 of 22 members were present today, representing 77% attendance. We had Holly Gomes joining us today , a guest of Laureen . In addition , we had the guest speaker , Dr Omar Hakim , and his associate , Agatha Gorecka .

HAPPY-TOONIES

Jimmy , our newest member had a lucky day today !

Dean was also enjoying his day today .

Mike is excited to be returning to Disney and EPCOT , where his son Evan is working again this year .

Larry is looking forward to our "Bring a Guest day" Wednesday December 4th . Mike Laurie will be the speaker , discussing the Rotary District , and Rotary International . Everyone PLEASE bring a guest ! Larry is off to Tuscon Arizona this week , but will be back for the month of December .

Fred had fun last weekend at the Bala cranberry festival .

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Laureen and Mike brought to our attention the three club Christmas Party at the Galt Country Club on Friday November 29 , 2019 . We will all enjoy prime rib for dinner .

Sean announced our kick off for Ham Cookies and Cake sales for Christmas . Please get selling !!

GUEST SPEAKER

Peter introduced our guest speaker Dr Omar Hakim .

Dr Hakim has been performing laser vision correction since 1994 . He practices at the University of Waterloo school of Optometry , and Lasik MD clinic in Kitchener , and TLC at U of W .

We received an anatomy lesson regarding the eye ... cornea , pupil , lens , and retina , with a great smartie analogy , regarding cataracts , where the lens becomes cloudy.

The causes of cataracts are

1. age

2.injuries

3.diabetes

4.smoking

5.chemotherapy

6.born with cataracts

We saw a video of the surgery of cataract removal .

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS SCHEDULE

The Sgt.‐At‐Arms (SAA) shall mark the attendance sheet, input Guest Names, Visiting Rotarians and Make‐ups submitted by club members, as well as calculate the meeting percentage. You will also give the invocation when requested by the President. At the end of the meeting make sure the Secretary has the “Secretary’s Copy”.

In addition, the SAA shall also fill in the attendance details on the “Bulletin Editor’s Copy” and make sure the editor receives it by the end of the meeting.

The person who is responsible for any Ticket sales shall enter the cash details on the “Treasurer’s Copy”. They shall also collect the Happy Toonies and enter that information on the same sheet. At the end of the meeting they shall give the treasurer the tally sheet along with the cash in an envelope. There is a supply of banker’s envelopes in the tote box.
