President Laureen brought this meeting of Cambridge North Rotary (CNR) to order on time. Dave Thomas started O Canada with enthusiastic notes, and then we all followed with a nice finish. Sean Carragher read a very fine invocation.

TABLE TALK

There was a lively conversation at our table. Before O'Canada, we all said Hi! to Honary (Retired) Rotarian Dave Mitten. Dave talked about moose hunting recently, and this carried over to our table conversation. We all discussed how moose hunting is more about the friendship than about chasing the moose. We also talked about Peter Ashenhurst, and how is Wife was in the hospital. We then talked about the weather and how it has been nice since the snow around Rememberance Day. After that, we touched on how interest rates have come down (again), likely due to Donald Trump's actions with the Federal Reserve Bank in the USA. Then we hit on the impeachment proceedings for Donald Trump and how his goose seems to be cooked but he will likely find a way out, in the end. Another item was that the Ribfest topic was still not resolved. In my notes, I wrote down 'surf tie' but I am not really sure what this refers to. We did talk about how people don't normally wear ties any more. Dean Fitzgerald mentioned he had been at a meeting in Toronto during the last week and he was one of three people in attendance wearing ties. Lunch was served a bit late, and we did discuss this around the table, too.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

Sgt at Arms Sean Carragher reported that 16 members were present today, of 21 total, for76.2 % attendance. We were fortunate to have two guests: retired Rotarian Dave Mitten along with Dr. Mike Lawrie, District Governor Elect. There was no Guest Speaker on this off week.

HAPPY-TOONIES
Greg Rawn was happy to attend CNR this week! He then went on to say that he is planning a trip to Florida soon, for work and fun. He also said it was nice to be back at the meetings, with a brief break, due to a busy work schedule. Good show Greg!

Dave Mitten mentioned to the group he had just returned from moose hunting. They had a great time but did not even see one moose. The word around Parry Sound is that the moose population is on a low part of the population cycle.

Dave then went on to say he had driven to Dawson City, Yukon, and then on to Skagway Alaska. He said this is well worth the time - if you can fit it in to your schedule. Apparently retired CNR member Al Bessie had told Dave about this drive on a long gravel road and this motivated the recent trip except the road was recently paved. Dave then said that he then visited the Diamond Saloon with 'Diamond Tooth Gurdy' singing traditional songs. Dave also said he sang a verse of a song with Gurdy, too.

Sean said that he flew to Florida on Saturday, as he wanted to go for a ride on his motorcycle. Then he drove down to Key West. This means that during the last few months, he drove his motorcycle to the northern end of the road in North America, and now has gone to the southern tip of eastern North America. He then said he plans to drive to the west coast as well this year, to see the Pacific Ocean. Lots of fun on the road!

Mike Bernard wanted to thank everyone for their patience with his busy work schedule, as he was absent for the last six weeks. He then said the family was also keeping him busy, too.

Dave Thomas wanted to also thank everyone for their patience, as he has been absent for the better part of six weeks as well. He said he was the third member of the 'guilt train' to stand up today. Good news from Dave was that they married his son off in the last while and all is well on that front!

Laureen then said that Peter's wife was in the hospital and they were going to find out her room number, and send her flowers. Word on the street was that she was recovering from ??? (no one said exactly what caused her to go to the hospital).

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A few announcements

Laureen mentioned that December 4 is the membership meeting. Please bring a friend to lunch that day! Laureen and Dr. Mike will be presenting about what Rotary is about.

Ribfest. Discussions about the path forward with Ribfest are on-going. Profit for the 2019 event was about $34000 suggesting CNR will receive 17,000. Laureen mentioned that another meeting will occur very soon, to make a decision about what the future holds for this event. If Ribfest is passed on this year, we have $$$ in the reserve fund that allow us one year to replace the event. So there is no rush to find another source for fund raising.

Sean again reminded us that the Ham Cookies and Cake sales are coming up . Sean said the sales are going well.  He also said it is VERY IMPORTANT that members use the form to report Ham and Cake sales, to avoid the fiasco of overselling.  Please use the Excel form, as emailing Sean will not be ok. We are able to order additional hams on short notice if the demand warrants. The cakes and cookie orders are available at Winser Doors. All boxes will only be released, if they are signed out, to ensure proper inventory tracking.

Dr. Mike Lawrie presented a Certificate for the End Polio Now Campaign to CNR, due to the long term commitments made by our club to this excellent cause. The certificate was from Rotary International.
GUEST SPEAKER
This is an off week, with no guest speaker.

We did discuss how good the speakers have been this autumn at our table!
