OPENING CEREMONIES
Today we had another impressive change by our President. In accordance with Covid-19 rules, we did not sing the National anthem, we were shown a video of the singing of the National anthem. This was followed by a toast to Canada and to Rotary.

TABLE TALK
Along with the usual table talk President Laureen and Sean Carragher passed around pieces of turkey well cooked by Chef Sean. We were a bit shocked when President Laureen came to our table and smiling said "turkey" Took a while to realise she was actually offering us pieces of turkey.
Around the table the talk was on numerous topics, the American Election was not one of them. We discovered that you should not ask Peter Ashenhurst who the speakers are for today. He will let you know that you need to read the emails he has been studiously sending out to members, he even uses different colours to make it easier for us to read.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

Our Sgt-At-Arms was our Past President Mike Jennings, he reported that 15 members were present today. This is a 75% attendance. I did not get a copy of the Sgt-at-Arms report therefore this reporting will be dependant on my memory. I hold no responsibility for mistakes since this memory  is that of a senior retired person. We had 4 Guest speakers (names not recorded), they were also neighbours of Don Daggett. Dawn Daggett wife of Don and their son Quinn were also present. Shauna Olney daughter of Larry Olney also joined us.

HAPPY-TOONIES

HAPPY TOONIES (cashless)

We made Sean a happy man today, probably because he cooked a turkey for us. Sean was also happy because he purchased a new car. He used it to drive his Dad back to New Liskeard, he was very impressed with the self drive feature of the car.
Don Daggett was also also happy that his wife Dawn and their son Quinn were able to join him today.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Today we had the second instalment of Sean's cooking, (samples of cooked turkey), Sean did admit that we needed to take into consideration that he may have overcooked the turkey. However after much discussion on the turkey and last week's ham sample it was decided by a vote that this year we will not be selling ham or turkey in the Christmas fundraising. We will sell cakes and cookies only.

President Laureen announced that the Preston Hespeler Club will be hosting an online Auction, members are invited to register online at BigGiveAuction.ca. You can Donate, Sponsor, Bid or Share.

We are still trying to get the RI President Elect to speak to us, this is in the planning stage. The RI President elect is a member of a Windsor Rotary Club.

President Laureen would like to remind Committee Chairs that you need to get your committees together and start planning for the year. Reports on your plans should be given to the appropriate Director.

Treasurer Gerry would like to remind members that he takes regular trips to the bank and he would be happy to take your membership fees with him when he goes.

GUEST SPEAKER
Today we were very fortunate to have 2 speakers. They were neighbours of Don and Dawn Daggett. One couple was presently their next door neighbours and the other couple had recently moved. Don introduced the speakers.

The first topic was from the Bee Sweet Nature company in Puslinch, they hand collect and grow Ontario Native plants strictly from seeds they collect. They are a family run business since 2007 and are committed to organic sustainability. They grow plants which help to enhance the development of bees in the area since they are also beekeepers. Their passion is to increase the biodiversity of the Southern Ontario landscape by offering local native stock. A lot of their stock is Carolinian or endangered pollinator plants that have disappeared from the landscape.Their enthusiasm for what they do was very evident.

This talk was followed with a very enthusiastic and animated talk on Splendid Spiders, all you needed to know but was afraid to ask. This was a very appropriate talk for Halloween. Spiders have 8 legs and 2 body parts. They are the largest arachnids  and most can spin webs. Spiders spin different types of webs based on the type of spider. They can be Orb webs, Funnel webs, Sheet webs and Cobwebs.  They are 2 types of spiders that bite people. These spiders are not normally found in Ontario. We heard about the interesting ritual of spider mating. The female spider is larger than the male so it makes the role of the male spider a bit more challenging and many do not survive the mating act.

These talks were very interesting and President Laureen thanked Don,s neighbours for the enthusiastic talks.
Pres.Laureen then gonged us for the good of Rotary
