OPENING CEREMONIES
President Laureen quietly brought the meeting to order. Today we had a full house, regular and visiting prospective members. The members were on their best behaviour. They actually listened to President Laureen. Both Jody and Doug started the National Anthem and as mentioned in our past bulletin they helped us release our endorphins.
Ken Denholm invocated.

TABLE TALK
We had 2 prospective members present at our table, and as expected whenever 2 or more people are gathered together discussion includes President Trump.  Sean Carragher interrupted the table musings to announce that we were all sold out of Hams, Cakes and Cookies. We have sold 665 Hams. This we thought was a record for our club but the previous record was for 750 Hams, this year however Hams were sold out in record time.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

Sgt at Arms Ken Denholm  reported that 15 members were present today, this gave us a 71 % attendance. Today was our bring a guest to Rotary day and the members did not disappoint. Today 10 prospective members joined us for lunch. They were Dave Popovich, Denise Parkin, Gary Chisholm, Dave Stainsky, Jamie Hamilton, Bill Dickson, Brent Fearon, Ray Snow, Brad Way and Greg Smit. Hopefully I have not misspelled any names. Mike Lawrie our District Governor elect also joined us for lunch.

HAPPY-TOONIES
In the usual Cambridge North Rotary style, we picked a prospective member and made them a little happier, Prospective member Brad Way was made a little happier, he was also happy that this was his one year work anniversary at Giant Tiger.
Sean Carragher was getting ready to ride his motor cycle to Mexico, he was hoping to camp along the way. When he returns he would have made a 6000 km ride.
Jim Robinson was happy that he was able to convince his guest Dave to come to Rotary on his birthday.
Ken Denholm was flying out West to see his daughter and granddaughter.
Mike Lawrie was happy to be attending a birthday party for his oldest brother who was going to be 80 and he was happy to join us for lunch today because grilled cheese was on the menu at his home today for lunch.

GUEST SPEAKER

Today instead of a formal Guest Speaker the program consisted of talks by our President Laureen and District Governor Elect Mike Lawrie on Rotary and what it means to be a Rotarian. President Laureen showed a video  where people on the street were asked what Rotary meant to them, some of the answers were quite amusing. President Laureen also explained that we meet every Wednesday from 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm, she gave a brief synopsis of the projects we undertake and how we use the funds we raise.
District Governor Elect Mike Lawrie explained that  Rotary brings together a global network of volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to tackle some of the world's most challenging problems.  One of the world's problems undertaken by Rotary is the campaign to end Polio. With the tremendous help of Rotary and other global organisations Polio has almost been eradicated. Rotary connects approximately 1.2 million members from over 200 countries. Our Rotary club belongs to District 7080 which has 48 clubs and stretches from Mississauga to Ingersoll.

Laureen's Questions!
There were no Laureen's questions today, we replaced that with a blast from the past.

Since this is the Christmas Season, here are some excerpts from a Bulletin written by Bulletin Editor Al Bessey on December 22 1999.

T'was the night before Christmas when all through the Blackhouse the Rotary Club was meeting though we were missing the mouse. Larry and Dennis were selling tickets with care so I bought one in hopes that I'd get a share. The members were nestled all snug in their chairs while visions of rising stock prices danced in their hairs. (Bill Cairns was absent)

And Carol in her kerchief and Louis in his cap had just settled their brains for an afternoon nap when up on the dias there arose such a clatter, the group rose from their seats to see what was the matter. Away to the window Duarte flew like a flash, tripped over Pamela who gave him a smash. The light on the breast of the new falling snow gave a luster of mid-day (which it was) to objects below.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear but Gary Cole and a glassful of beer. With a scowl he had or attention quite quick, I knew in a moment he was on a power trip. (kinda rhymes with quick). More rapid than eagles his orders they came and he whistled and shouted and called them by name ... Now Ron! Now Jim! Now Isabel and Fred! On Debbie! On Gerry! And Ted! To stand and pray, to toast one and all, Now scoot away, scoot away, scoot away all.

The rest of this Bulletin will follow at a later date.
