Devon Hogue, working for the City of Cambridge in the department of Economic Development, provided a presentation on the film industry in Cambridge. - Cambridge is the 2nd fastest growing region in Canada - In 2019 there was a 79% increase in inquiries about filming in Cambridge. - In 2019 there was a 10% increase in filming (films, independent films, streaming programs). - 2020 was heading toward being the best ever for film activity in Cambridge until the pandemic hit. - Why Cambridge? Because - lots of natural beauty and a supply of heritage assets (Galt); 3 bridges in close proximity over the Grand River making street closures easier; close to Toronto; supportive leadership; supportive community. - Some of the projects that have been filmed here include: The Queen's Gambit, The Handmaid's Tale, Self Made, and Designated Survivor.
