OPENING CEREMONIES
On this sunny day, President Mike began the meeting with a clap and then asked David Mitten to  us in O'Canada. Sean Carragher then read a very fine invocation.

TABLE TALK
For this week, our table included Kathy Dick, visiting Rotarian Tim Whitehead, Larry Olney, and David Thomas. We discussed many things and started with wine. Kathy said she prefers to drink red wine, always in moderation, and usually Canadian. She then said she recently tried a Canadian Rose and found it to be quite nice. Larry said that he has been particularly impressed with how good the Canadian Wines are these days. Dean Fitzgerald mentioned that he heard there is a VQA store in Hawaii and the cheap wine we buy in Ontario are sold for big $$$. Then we talked about our preference for tea or coffee. We discussed how coffee is acidic and can lead to a sour stomach in some folks. Kathy mentioned how she is a big fan of certain tea. Tim also said that he quite enjoys tea through the day. Dean mentioned that he always buys fair trade coffee. Then we talked about food. Tim said he recently made a very fine bean soup that only took a short while to prepare. Apparently Tim uses several cans of beans with six varieties. Then the beans are added to other vegetables and bang... he has a soup in less than an hour. Larry said it takes him hours to make his bean soup. A key step is to soak the beans overnight. But are you surprised that a retired restaurant guy (i.e., Larry) would spend days making soup compared with those of us who prefer to do things in blocks of hours? Otherwise, we also discussed how the weather has been generally cold and yucky. Dean mentioned he had been up in cottage country in the past week for work and it seemed that spring was at least four weeks late.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

We had 19 members present of 25 for a percentage of about 76.

We had no official guests but were lucky enough to have Tim Whitehead visiting from Mississauga.

For the 50/50 draw, the total take was $46. The winning ticket was held by Fred Schiedel, who took home $23!

HAPPY-TOONIES
We had several happy people today.

Fred was happy with his winnings. Plus he was happy to be likely near the end of his 'sniffles'. And Fred described how he was getting ready to depart on a motorcycle trip in North Carolina USA.

Larry was happy, as he has been quite enjoying his new diet, under the advice of his nutritionist. He also was looking forward to visiting his cottage in the forthcoming long weekend. He is nervous about the status of his dock, given the flooding apparently happening in the area. Larry also described a family trip to Pincher Creek, to see his sister whom had been in a car accident. She is recovering well from the accident but Larry wanted to visit her to give her a HUG. Then he met a few other couples there whom he normally sees in Arizona at Wagon's West. So, they all had a very nice visit out west.

Mike Jennings - Happy that he is going away in August to celebrate his wedding anniversary!
ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mike Jennings mentioned the upcoming meeting at Kingpin for the 5th Wednesday of May (i.e., 29th). Likely an evening event. Look for an email from Mike Bernard.

Dave Cameron mentioned The Superhero Run is fast approaching (Sun June 2).

Gerry Menezes noted in a sombre tone that the bingo facility had cancelled the free coffee/tea/soda. Apparently the Province of Ontario identified it was wasteful to provide free drinks. But they have changed the house rules to now allow personal drinks to be brought to the bingo hall. So it was not all bad news.

Dean Fitzgerald mentioned that many folks are working on Ribfest and help is still needed. And anyone whom wants to provide some assistance should contact him soon.

Mike Jennings also mentioned to remember the September golf tournament is fast approaching. So, folks should start talking about what teams will be formed etc.
GUEST SPEAKER

No guest speak was scheduled. So, it was a social time to cover lots of bases.

Wildlife Picture of the Week

View of Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus).

This member of the Woodpercker family is a familiar bird in Cambridge. This is likely a female, as the male shows a bright red mark on its head. Two morphological forms are revident. The eastern species shows distinct yellow in the tail feathers (look close at the picture above and you will see the yellow hiding there) compared with the red evident in the western form.
