OPENING CEREMONIES

President Laureen gonged the members present and we all very quickly followed her instructions. Fred Schiedel in his best baritone voice led the
singing of O Canada. Water glasses were quickly filled and we toasted our country Canada. Peter Ashenhurst the acting Sgt at Arms then read the invocation.

TABLE TALK
There was quite a bit of table talk and interestingly at no time did I hear Donald Trump, blockades or teacher strikes mentioned. Paul Goetz was asked a question and he said he would take the fifth. We learned that in Canada when you take the fifth it likely means you want a container of whisky unlike in the USA where it means you are unwilling to answer the question.  We then were educated on other differences between courts in the USA and Canada.  Canadian judges are not elected (thank goodness) and they do not use a gavel.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT

Acting Sergeant -at-Arms Peter Ashenhurst reported that 15 members attended today. This gave us a 71.4 % attendance. There were no maku-ups today and we had 2 guests join us. The guest were James Goodram our Guest Speaker and Denise Parkin a guest of President Laureen.

GUEST SPEAKER
Gerry Menezes introduced our Guest Speaker for today. James Goodram is the Director of Economic Development for the City of Cambridge. He has been in this position for 6 years. He has a solid background in Economic Development before coming to Cambridge, he has been with  Haldimand County as the Manager of the Economic Development and Tourism Division and has also spent some time with the City of Hamilton

James Goodram then gave us a brief but concise report on the future economic development plans for the city of Cambridge. There are 30 acres in the Boxwood Business Campus with over 300.000 sq feet of industrial space available. The Toyota plant is adding production of the Lexus vehicle. His department works closely with many partners including BDC and  the region of Waterloo. He also explained that 80% of economic growth in the region comes from companies already there. He brought us up to date on development in the Gaslight District. The Gaslight District is envisioned to be a thriving hub in the revitalised urban core. The new development will respect the historic architectural components already there.
James Goodram 's talk was well received and there were numerous questions posed to him after his talk.

President Laureen thanked James for his talk and then gonged us back to work or where ever you wanted to go.
