OPENING CEREMONIES
Today was a special day, the District Governor and the Assistant District Governor were making their special club visit to our club. President Laureen quietly brought the club to order . No gavel or gong was available but a few words and a commanding look is all our President needs to settle our club down. Paul Witmer led  the singing of O Canada and Peter Ashenhurst did the invocation.

TABLE TALK
It was a small group of our members that sat down to our noon meal. Hopefully we will be getting more members showing up to the regular meetings. We are well spaced out with only a maximum of 4 people to each table and the tables are well separated in a very large room. Wearing a mask outside the room is compulsory and you can wear a mask inside the room if you desire.
Around our table we discussed the response to Covid -19 from both the Provincial and Federal Governments. We also discussed the Pros and Cons of the College System that controls our Professions in Ontario.

GUEST SPEAKER

Today our District Governor paid us a visit. This was more special since the District Governor for District 7080 is from the city of Cambridge. DG Mike Lawrie was introduced by ADG Larry Brokenshire. Our DG is a retired local physician. He practiced in  the City of Cambridge for over 40 years and was also the Chief of Staff at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. In 2006 Dr. Lawrie was also awarded the Physician of the Year in Cambridge. DG Mike Lawrie is married to Louise and has 3 children and 7 grandchildren.

DG Mike Lawrie then gave us a summary of the role and plans for the upcoming year. He discussed the problems that Rotary and the world are dealing with  now that Covid - 19 has impacted all our lives. District 7080 has over 50 clubs and 1500 members in Southern Ontario and we are facing many challenges., Some members have been laid off and some under employed, some clubs are not getting together as before.  However with these difficulties there can also be opportunity for change.. He quoted Churchill who said that a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity but an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
Our RI President this year is Holger Knaack and his theme this year is "Rotary Opens Opportunities"

DG Mike Lawrie also explained that his personal theme is that we take care of our self, we take care of each other and we take care of the planet.
He also announced that the first female RI President will be Jennifer Jones from a Rotary Club in Windsor Ontario, she will be President for the year 2022-2023.
President Laureen thanked our DG and dismissed us a little after 1:30 pm.
