OPENING CEREMONIES
President Gerald Menezes started the meeting of the Rotary Club of Cambridge North (RCN) on time. Once we started, Sean Carragher led us in a strong rendition of Oh Canada. Then, Paul Goetz shared a fine invocation.

TABLE TALK
We sat at a full table of Rotarians and that was refreshing to be sitting in a familiar manner. We then talked about Remembrance Day, Mike Jennings the recent reopening of the U.S. border this past Monday, the upcoming drive to Florida by Mike Jennings. We also talked about how last year, it snowed on 1 November while the weather today was warm with rain but the weekend had been quite nice with sun. Dean Fitzgerald mentioned he was scheduled to travel to Manitoulin Island next week, to inspect old oil wells again.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS REPORT
We had 10 Rotarians that were present today with no guests.

HAPPY-TOONIES
Dave Thomas said that bingo times are back on. If you have been contacted, then you have a time slot between now and Christmas. He is very pleased that RCN can participate again. So, now it is time to dust off those plumb RCN shirts!

Peter Ashenhurst said he quite enjoyed being the bingo greeter the previous evening. But he warned to turn on the printer, before you try to print your name tag. Apparently another volunteer named 'Rose' attempted to print her name tag 13 times. Peter knows that she had 13 attempts, because she was left with a dozen 'Rose' tags after her official name tag came out. Quite funny!

Mike will be off tomorrow to Florida for his long winter stay in sunny Orlando, near the house of the mouse.

Sean Carragher plans to mark another item off his bucket list later today, when he completes his first lesson to learn how to fly a helicopeter. He said that he is dreaming about a helicopter licence in the future and owning a Robinson 66 single turbine. The end of the dream includes such a purchase parked in front of his home, awaiting any desire to fly away. To help everyone experience this dream, I have included an image of an R66 below:

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The sign up sheet for the Christmas party was shared around, again. Mark off the date of November 25 at the Galt Country Club. Remember that price per person of $65.00 will be reimbursed by RCN.

The Christmas Ham flier has been circulated by Sean and he said we have committed to sell 350 but could get more, if needed. Then President Jerry said that he has sold more than 30 hams and other folks have also been racking up the sales. Great Show! Sean also mentioned that he will be going out for dinner in the next week with retired Rotarian Paul Witmer, and will ask him about using his list for other ham sales.

President Jerry confirmed the new membership of the RCN committees, with Ken Denholm visiting Arizona for his triathalon. The fund raising priorities for the future look to be: 1) ham sales, 2) bingo, 3) fun run, 4) car rally, with a return of the golf tournament in 2023.

Dave Thomas has resigned his Chairmanship of Camp Enterprise, and this will allow for other Kitchener or Waterloo Rotarians to take on the role. For this year, Camp Enterprise has no overnight activities planned due to Covid-19.

With limited funding for Camp Enterprise required, the group discussed the scenario of directing these available budget funds to high school scholarships, an activity completed in the past by RCN. Thus, Jeff Matyas will move forward and reach out to some local schools regarding a reset on a Rotary award to the "Most Improved Student" and possibly another award.
GUEST SPEAKER

Due to the extensive discussions concerning RCN activities, no speaker was in attendance.

Next week, our speak is scheduled to be April Terreau of Navigating Integrity Associates, with a tentative title of: "Dealing with harassment in the workplace".

Ecology Trivia:

Did you know that some Blue Jays (Cyanocitta cristata) overwinter in southern Ontario while other Blue Jays migrate to southern habitats at this time of year? Those Blue Jays that stay overwinter are the mature birds with established territories while it is the younger birds that go to the warm, sunshine destinations. With climate change, mature American Robin (Turdus migratorius) have also started overwintering in southern Ontario while younger American Robin still migrate south. These birds that overwinter run the risk of severe winter weather but obviously think it is much better to stay in lovely southern Ontario compared with a long trip south. Perhaps our RCN members that travel south should re-think the benefits and risk of travel south, like our feathered friends?
