ANNOUNCEMENTS

Past President Mike brought to our attention the three club Christmas Party at the Galt Country Club on Friday November 29 , 2019. You need to let Mike know if you plan to attend and he needs to know your choice of main course for dinner.

Sean again reminded us that the Ham Cookies and Cake sales are coming up . Please get selling !!  Also it is VERY IMPORTANT that members use the form to report Ham and Cake sales back to Sean in order to avoid the fiasco of overselling.  Please use the Excel form on line, emailing Sean will not be enough. We are able to order additional hams on short notice if need be. The cakes and cookies are available at Winser Doors.

On a very sad note Past President Mike announced that Barb Ashenhurst is very seriously ill. Our prayers go out to Peter , Barbara and the rest of the Ashenhurst family.

GUEST SPEAKER
Guest Speaker Margaret van Haren was introduced by Sean Carragher, Margaret is a physiotherapist who volunteered to work with a Water and Sanitation Project in Kenya.

2 years ago Margaret gave up her job as a physiotherapist and using her own money travelled to Kenya to assist in the Ekenywa water project. Ekenywa is an organization started by 2 young ladies Ashley and Elsie who met in high School in Kenya. Ekenywa believes that children are the key to unlocking poverty in any community often the most forgotten piece yet they carry the most workload and are the most resilient. Access to clean drinking water means better growth, decreased incidence of water borne diseases and more time in school learning. Margaret was able to visit many water projects in Kenya, some good, some not so good. Some projects were not sustainable with very little follow up. Ekenywa water projects work with the community, the local people are always very heavily involved.

Margaret was thanked by Past President Mike Jennings who the gonged us back to work.
